To the most patient family & friends in the world:
I realized it's been awfully long since my last newsletter. And so much happened in between to justify that delay. Really!! But let's not waste any precious time discussing and excusing and let's get going with the fun stuff, won't we?! :)
After my summer trip to Germany my schedule was packed with fun stuff:
I went to a New York Yankees Game. I set the goal for myself to not leave the US without watching at least one of each of the major American sports life. So far, I've been to a soccer game (ok, it's debatable if that's a sport the typical American goes crazy about), baseball game, and basketball. Still on the to-do list are football, ice hockey, and stock car race. Maybe boxing just to complete the list?!
We had a housewarming party at our apartment. Since Jojo was in Nepal the time I had my birthday party, we decided to have another party for our housewarming. It was crazy fun with friends of hers, and PT's and mine.
A rather sad part of my summer was the leaving of two very special friends of mine - Ana and Philipp. Due to job related issues Philipp had to go back to Germany and Ana, his girlfriend, decided to join him even though she didn't speak German nor had many friends over there. They settled in Munich, a lovely city. Ana is studying German now, and is doing great btw! The two of them seem to have lots of fun, and as always make friends easily. Some traditions never die... (Ana, your Tequilla shots rock every party!) Thanks to internet and Google voice and Skype and Whatsapp and all those other apps and so forth it is very easy to keep in touch and it almost feels like they are still here! :)
A really fun part of this summer was tubing on the Delaware River. It was one of the last very awesome summer days. We drove down to our friends, Andrea and Denny, who live close to the Pennsylvania border. Everybody got a truck tube, we tied them together (our supply tube right in the middle) and let's roll! Check out the pictures ... yes, I was adventurous enough to bring my camera to log everything!
As you might know, Oktoberfest is a huge deal in Germany. But it is even more so over here! In Central Park there was a huge tent, Oktoberfest style, only German beer, German "Blaskapelle" and maaaany German people. Getting in was quite an adventure (since we didn't have tickets and the whole thing was supposedly sold out) but some negotiations, ripp-offs, and bribes later we were in and having fun!
Only a week later I went to an apple-picking tour with my girl friends. We went to a farm in PA, brought our own bags and could pick as many apples right from the tree as we were able to carry. Just like when picking strawberries, you have to try before you pick anything, so we were quite full by the time our bags were filled as well. LOL At home we baked the most delicious apple pie, had a bonfire with s'mores and BBQ. And at night, the stars over East New Jersey sparkle like diamonds in a pitch black sky!
Of course a highlight of my summer, indian summer and fall, was obviously when I finally got my car! After a very long wait, one false alarm in September, it was finally for pick-up at the dealer. It is just beautiful! The color, the size, the manual transmission. Now, THIS is fun in driving again! I got the baby fixed up with racing stripes - white from bumper to bumper - and just got the windows tinted. Not ghetto tinted but the stylish, classy look. Whenever I drive into the city now, I find parking right away, no more annoying "the car doesn't fit that space". Check out the pictures!
In between all those summer-fun-things I also took two CPA exams. Well actually, I only took one, but I failed the first time by one point and, therefore, had to retake it at the end of November. In my explication here it seems like the CPA is only a very minor part of my life between July and December. But, despite that impression, I studied like crazy, my family and friends most of the time had to pay the price for it most of the time. I spare the details to not bore you to death. My friend Shailee already thinks I'm a super nerd and I really don't want to reinforce that impression. LOL
Now it's Christmas time. Yes, it's cold here but the sun is shining most of the time, so it doesn't feel like Christmas at all. Just now, I had to close my blinds because the sun was glaring in my laptop screen. In just two weeks I'm going home for a couple days, then I'm flying further east to attend my friend's wedding in India. I can't wait for that trip and you all can be sure, that in January you will receive a detailed trip report. Probably, as always on my trips, with many stories, excitement, and adventures!
Stay tuned ... LOVE Vicky
