Happy New Year everyone!!
I noticed the other day that I haven't written a newsletter in almost 2 months. TWO months... I apologize and after reading this you will also understand why - I just have an amazingly busy life! :)
Okay where to start? I went on another one of my spectacular journeys. This time to Los Angeles, over the Thanksgiving break. It was the end of November but it felt like summer. The temperatures amazing, the people amazing, the city amazing. I fell in love with California and would move there tomorrow if I could. I got to see Hollywood Boulevard and the Walk of Fame with all the stars of the stars. Michael Jackson's star was so crowded that it was almost impossible to take a decent picture. But my favorite is Bruce Willis anyway, and of course I had to pay my respects to Britney! :) In Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive you just have to feel like a star yourself since you are surrounded by luxury and indulgence. Venice Beach is something for freaks, tourists and sport addicted. I was so impressed by the amount of people doing sports in CA - running on the beach boardwalk, playing volleyball at the beach, biking and of course skating. Everything is just so much more relaxed over there...
Shortly after LA I had one of my favorite people from Germany coming for a visit... Nils! He stayed with me for almost two weeks. Unfortunately I had to work so he discovered New York City on his own on these days. My days off we spent together in the city, shopping or with my friends. We had a great time together and as always with good friends it feels like we just saw each other last week. In reality we didn't see each other for one and a half year! Can you believe that?!?!
One of the highlights of Nils visit was the Secret Santa Christmas party that Ana and Philipp hosted at their apartment. So thanks to advanced technology all guests were assigned one other person to get a gift for. It was so much fun! Unfortunately the party was a little influenced by the snow storm that hit the East Coast that weekend. Washington and South Jersey got two feet of snow! (For the metric users among us - three feet are one meter.) So while we received presents and had to find out our secret santa, the chaos started and by the time we wanted to go home it was Winter Wonderland outside. The ride back home was a real adventure! With a rear-wheel drive so much fun to drive on snow-covered streets... *LOL*
Thanks to the snow chaos at the East Coast and Europe the mess expanded to the travelling society as well. Airports were shut down, flights were delayed and people spent days and nights at the airport waiting for a chance to get home (or anywhere close to that). And among all those people hoping to catch a flight home was my friend Nils. His standby ticket of Lufthansa was almost worthless since people were willing to pay almost every price for a free seat to Germany. After lots of worries and crossed fingers he was allowed to fly on the jump seat. Maybe not business class but hey, at least he got home for Christmas! :)
Nils' departure meant for me the start of a new era - studying for the first CPA exam. I don't really remember what I was thinking when I applied for the hardest and toughest of all four exams first... *hahaha* All I remember was that I ended up studying every single free minute because I had to race time to finish all chapters before the exam. Oh wow... I almost went crazy. On Jan 4 I took the exam and still hope that somehow with lots of luck I passed it and don't have to start all over again! But to get my mind off the outcome of the first exam, crazy overambitious me already takes the prep class for the second exam. *LOL*
Between studying, I only took one evening off for a Christmas dinner with Philipp, Ana and her parents plus a couple other people that weren't able to spend Christmas with family. It was really cool since we had a mix of food and cultures of German, Dominican, Indian, Swiss and of course American. New Years was for many people a big party but I almost stayed at home. ALMOST, because a pity call by one of my friends (this time one from work) saved me from starting the new decade alone. *LOL* So I got to know new people, spend a traditional American New Years Eve with watching concerts and of course the real-time coverage of the ball-drop at Times Square.
2010 was already really eventful for me. I took my first CPA exam - and hopefully passed. :) My 2010 will be characterized by lots of changes. One of them probably will probably be to say goodbye to many of my friends. And this sad projection started already with one of my friends returning to Brazil. We had a farewell dinner and lots of fun but it's still sad to see people leave, knowing that I might be next. But... soon I will have friends all over the world and can travel to so many countries, have my personal tour guide and private residence everywhere! :-D
Unfortunately I have to wrap up now. I know you would love to hear more stories of my spectacular life but you will have to show patience until my next newsletter. *hehe* I promise I will not take as long to write again! I gotta earn money now - first at my register, then all night inventory, then back to work at 9 am tomorrow. Wow... I really am facing a fun time! *LOL*
Enjoy the pictures and all of you a great year 2010! Luvya, Vicky
